Capability

Towing and Hauling

The 2012 Silverado offers Tow/Haul Mode that enhances performance while pulling a trailer or hauling heavy loads. When activated, this feature modifies the automatic transmission shift schedule and helps reduce throttle pedal activity by the driver while traveling over rolling terrain. Cruise Grade Braking, which uses transmission downshifts to allow engine compression braking to slow the vehicle and its load, works in and out of Tow/Haul Mode on the Vortec 6.0L engine.

What Makes Silverado Strong?

Our chassis features a high–strength, fully–boxed steel frame that lets the Silverado 2500HD shoulder up to 4,212 lbs. of payload. The suspension has big, strong components to handle large loads and provide the ride quality the driver deserves.

Best–in–Class Maximum Towing

The regular cab Silverado 2500HD with a diesel engine can tow 17,800 lbs., and the regular cab equipped with a gas engine has a maximum payload capacity of 4,212 lbs.

Technology

Whether you’re heading to work or heading out for a weekend at the lake, the Chevy Silverado’s safety and mobile car technology makes a great traveling companion. From the security of OnStar, standard for 6 months on most Silverado models, to the numbers of ways you can be entertained, to internet access, Silverado gives you the ability to stay connected and in touch.

Chevy WiFi by Autonet Mobile turns your Silverado into a mobile hotspot:

Internet connection can support several devices at once. For work site use, offers immediate access to online ordering sites, municipal sites with permit and building code information, and more. For families on the go, passengers can connect with friends on social sites, stream videos on long trips, or find maps and research fishing and camping sites.

New Navigation/Entertainment System

In the case of threatening weather, you will see National Weather Service warnings in your area. Local Forecast is included with NavTraffic as part of the 3 month trial.

OnStar Directions & Connections Plan

The Silverado takes you a long way from anywhere, which makes the reach of OnStar advanced technology that much more valuable. In a collision, vehicle sensors can automatically alert a trained OnStar Advisor, who can request that emergency help be sent to your exact location, even if you can’t respond. And when work calls you to unfamiliar terrain, Turn-by-Turn Navigation gives you voice-guided directions to help you find your way. It’s all standard on most models for six months.

Safety

Before, During, and After the Crash

StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System helps you keep on the road and in control. The control module compares your steering input with the vehicle’s actual response and then, if necessary, makes small, individual applications to help keep you on track. In 2012, StabiliTrak includes Hill Start Assist and Trailer Sway Control — even more assurance (not available on Silverado Hybrid). A Tire Pressure Monitor keeps a constant watch on the inflation level of the vehicle’s four road tires.

Six air bags

18 are standard in the Silverado 1500: driver and right-frontal passenger dual-stage frontal air bags; head-curtain side-impact air bags for the front and rear outboard seating positions; and front-seat mounted air bags for thorax and pelvic protection. You’re also surrounded by a high-strength steel safety cage and strategically placed crush zones to help absorb and channel crash energy in case of a collision.

OnStar with Built-In Automatic Crash Response

In a collision, vehicle sensors can alert an OnStar Advisor who is immediately connected into your vehicle and can request emergency help be sent to your exact GPS location, even if you can’t respond.
