The Chevy Cruze starts at $16,995 and is slightly larger than the Cobalt, but will be powered by downsized engines, including a new 1.4-liter turbocharged four cylinder with 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque, as well as a 1.8-liter normally-aspirated unit with similar power but less torque. Receiving 40 miles per gallon on highway, all Chevrolet Cruze models will get six-speed gearboxes – either manual or automatic. The turbo Cruze is expected to score an impressive 40 mpg EPA highway rating.

Available safety features for the 2011 Cruze include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags, and front- and rear-side airbags. The LS and LT have 16-inch wheels; 17-inch wheels are standard on the LTZ and Eco; and 18-inch wheels are optional on the LT and LTZ. Among the available features are a wireless cell-phone link and navigation system.

The interior gets high marks, both for its space, available features and upscale ambience. The Chevy Cruze also stands out for its safety features — 10 airbags are standard. While pricing for the 2011 Cruze is still under wraps, car prices on the whole are increasing due to new features being offered – which in the Cruze includes more interior space, better fuel economy and some unique content and materials.
